A Fangirl Weekly Discussion: Tears in Heaven. The Saddest Deaths You See in Video Games

Ever had that moment that left you in disbelief? Where you can feel the eminent doom approaching? The music changes and that creeping sense that everything is about to change rushes over you like a tsunami. That’s when it happens your best friend and closest companion pass on into the dark unknown of death. For some games it’s really no big deal but those few games that span years of dedication a certain kinship builds that borders on reality. This is when you feel the depth of sadness that comes from losing a friend. Here are two character deaths that are bound to bring a tear to your eye or more.

Dominic Santiago Gears of War 3

Gears of War 3 is a third-person shooter video game developed by Epic Games. Gears of War 3 is the third installment of the Gears of War Series. Dominic Santiago’s death was one of the saddest death scenes this Fangirl has ever experienced in a game. Dominic Santiago was your friend and your partner through thick and thin. The fact that Dom sacrificed himself to save Marcus and the others really shows you what type of a person Dom really is. He cared for his team and cared for Marcus. However, the saddest point in the Dom’s death scene was the moment where he was talking to his dead wife. I have to say this Fangirl got a little tear eyed and was still in shocked that this even happened in a game. If Epic Games really wanted to end one of your favorite characters lives why not have Dom’s death be an emotional one! But don’t take my word for it. Check it out for yourself.

“You know we came face-to-face with the Locust queen? I was thinking about it last night, and… I could have asked her. I could have asked why the hell the grubs hate us so much, what they want, why they did that to Maria, and I didn’t.”

Mordin Solus Mass Effect 3

Mass Effect 3 had a lot of epic moments, and a lot of deaths depending on what your choices were within the games. Mass Effect 3 was the final installment within the Mass Effect Series. Mass Effect 3 an action role-playing video game developed by BioWare brought death to a new level. Mordin Solus death was an emotional rollercoaster depending on which path the player went down within the video game world of Mass Effect. Since Mass Effect 2 players got to know this salarian geneticist, professor, and a former operative of the Special Tasks Group. When Mordin digs deeper into his participation and modification of the genophage it becomes Mordin’s goal to cure the genophage that brought death so many of Krogan.  Mordin’s death shocked a lot of hard-core Mass Effect fans. From when we first ran into him on the Normandy singing a salarian version of Pirates of Penzance, to his effectiveness in war combat, and emotional outbursts. Mordin was a favorite within the Mass Effect Series and depending how you played the game had fans at odds on how he died. Regardless of what path you as the player chose, Mordin made every one who was a fan of the game come to tears.

“Had to be me. Someone else might have gotten it wrong.”

Anyone who does this to Mordin is seriously NOT COOL!!!

So what are your thoughts about Dom and Mordin? Did they make you tear up as much as it did for me? Are there any other sad deaths in video games that you feel should be on this list? Comment below and let me know. Also do not forget to follow me on twitter @kupid149
