Celtics vs 76ers Game 6 recap

The Philadelphia 76ers forced a Game 7 by beating the Boston Celtics 82-75 at home in Game 6 on Wednesday. J. Holiday scored 20 points, and had two big clutch free throws with 31.4 seconds left on the clock. The 76ers had a horrible day from behind the arc going 1-of-9, A. Iguodala with the only three, but their defense made up for it, doing a great job getting the ball out of Rondo’s hands. Rondo had six assists and four turnovers and was never really a major factor for the first time in this series. The Celtics were dominated defensively with E. Brand going 5-of-9 and S. Hawes 4-of-6 from the field.

The Celtics shot 33.3 percent from the floor after hitting 48.8 percent over the previous three games. It’s the lowest field goal percentage for the Celtics in a playoff game since playing at Detroit in game 4 of the 2008 Eastern Conference Finals with 31.8 percent.

“We have to do a better job offensively. I thought we had a lot of empty possessions.” – Celtics coach Doc Rivers

The Celtics had 14 assists and 17 turnovers, in the first five games of the series Boston averaged 24.4 assists and 13.6 turnover. Sixers outscored Boston 42-16 in the paint, The Celtics averaging 40 points in the paint on their last 3 games. Even with the Sixers missing nine straight field goals in the second, the Celtics couldn’t capitalize and get a run started.

If the Celtics don’t want to lose Game 7 at home this Saturday, they are going to need their starters to get it going and shoot above 45 percent from the field. They will definitely need R. Rondo to be the major factor, meaning having better shot selection (going 4-of-14 in this last game), controlling the pace and looking for the open man to sink the shot.
