FBG Music: The Greatest Video Game Music

The Greatest Video Game Music
is the first game-themed album from the London Philharmonic Orchestra, released on November 7, 2011.

This album offers some of the best versions of the greatest songs in video game history, featuring covers from Final Fantasy VIII, Metal Gear Solid: Sons of Liberty, Fallout 3, Bioshock, Call of Duty 4, The Legend of Zelda, Mario Bros and many many more.

The Legend of Zelda arrangement sounds much like the one from the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra released 20 years ago, which is a good thing for anyone who hasn’t heard it yet. With the Mass Effect “Suicide Mission” theme, for instance, you can hear much more of the strings, articulation, and instrumentation than you could in the original. Personally Fallout 3 theme gives me chills every single time I listen to it. There are some tracks that make you wonder why they did this, like Angry Birds main theme, but overall it’s a very well done compilation of classical covers.

Whether or not you agree with the tracklist, you still have to admit the orchestral versions of these songs do bring these pieces to an epic scale. Definitely a good buy for gamers and music lovers.
