Guinness World Records – the global authority on record-breaking - has recognized Microsoft’s Kinect for the Xbox 360 as the “Fastest Selling Consumer Electronics Device”. Between November 4, 2010 and January 3, 2011, the company sold an average of 133,333 units per day for a total of 8 million units in its first 60 days on sale.
These sales figures best both the iPhone and iPad for the equivalent launch periods.
“The sales figures here speak for themselves,” said Gaz Deaves, Gaming Editor for Guinness World Records. “After extensive research, we can confirm that no other consumer electronics device sold faster within a 60-day time span, an incredible achievement considering the strength of the sector.”
Kinect’s “Fastest Selling Consumer Electronic Device” record will be included in next year’s Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition. The current Guinness World Records 2011 Gamer’s Edition is available in both book or eBook versions at http://gamers.guinnessworldrecords.com/.
