Mad Catz F.R.E.Q. 7 Surround Sound Gaming Headset for PC Review

I was recently given the privilege of reviewing the new MadCatz F.R.E.Q. 7 Surround Sound Gaming Headset for PC. Believe me when I say the F.R.E.Q 7 is one of the best headsets that I have ever used. My initial reaction to getting to review this was like a child on Christmas morning I was so excited to try out the F.R.E.Q. 7 for myself.

Upon gazing at the headset for the first time I immediately noticed the sleek cutting edge design, the glamor of the red finish, and the simplicity of the cables. MadCatz defiantly went all out when figuring out how to design it and what materials to use. The F.R.E.Q 7 is made of metal, but it’s all lightweight. This gives you the secure feeling of have a durable yet lightweight PC headset. On the headset its self there is a Detachable Noise-canceling Microphone with a light up mute feature, a button to toggle mute on and off, a volume control, and a surround sound on and off button.  As far as comfort goes MadCatz did not disappoint I was able to wear the headset for prolonged periods of time without any discomfort.

The F.R.E.Q. 7 plugs in to your PC via USB audio connector cable, but also comes with a 3.5mm audio connector cable to plug in to your Mp3 or smartphone. Whatever way you hook it up you will be blown away by the amazing 7.1 surround sound from 50mm speakers.  Even if the game only supports stereo sound the F.R.E.Q 7 will boost the stereo to surround sound. The F.R.E.Q 7 also allows you to toggle the surround sound on and off so you can listen to your music in stereo. When I first put on the head set I couldn’t believe the quality of sound produced from the F.R.E.Q 7. Prior to this I had been using Turtle beach PX21 for my PC. The F.R.E.Q 7 blows them away in terms of quality, comfort and sound. I was in awe of what a PC gaming headset could really do.

As I said before the F.R.E.Q. 7 has a very simplistic cable set up. You use the USB cable for your PC, and the 3.5mm cable for your MP3/Smartphone. It’s not plug in and immediately start playing, you first have to go and install the driver and software from once all of that is said and done, you can control everything from either the headset or inside the software. There are three different modes Gaming, Chat, and Music. Gaming is best for when you’re playing a game it distinguishes one noise from another. Chat works best when there is no background noise like via Skype. And music is best when listening to music. You can also control the sound of the headphones and mic from inside the software. This makes everything convenient and easy to control.

MadCatz has blown me away yet again with their innovations and quality. I would easily recommended    MadCatz F.R.E.Q. 7 Surround Sound Gaming Headset for PC over the competitors any day of the week.  I give these a 9.5/10.
