Master of Pendulum Review

Hey everyone Patrick here doing another Yugioh review. Thanks to my friend at Konami for giving me the opportunity to review their most recent structure deck, Master of Pendulums. Now being a fan from the very beginning I knew that there were a few cards back then that were way too good, fast forward to today, now I feel that pendulums and its mechanics are way over powered. But the more I try to steer away from using these cards, the more my opponents tend to use them, and believe me I don’t really like to lose. As a duelist I thought pendulums were able to make the battlefield even for players that are good and for the others that really don’t know how to play, but that’s not the case. It seems most of the top deck either rely on a couple of pendulums or just have a whole deck for them, but as an old school duelist I was very skeptical to try them out and what better way to do this, then with the new Master of Pendulum deck. For me I usually buy three of the structure decks so I can make a competitive version of what the basic structure deck is. Now I’ve played against qliphorts, performapals, and a bunch of other weird variants, but I am really liking the magician pendulums a ton. They play very well with each other, odd-eyes, and even performapals which gives them more versatility to be sprinkled into other decks. I have play tested this deck a few times and there are a lot of combos in pendulums, but the cards I’m going to talk about are the ones that can set up plays all by themselves.

The first card that I thought was amazing was Oafdragon Magician. Its a level 6 monster with 2100 atk and 1400 def and has a pendulum scale of 2. Oafdragon has an effect for both parts of the card and both are very good to set up for your big plays to go for that final push I’ve r the opponent. The monster effect says, ” If this card is normal or special summoned: You can target 1 “magician” pendulum monster or “odd-eyes” monster from your graveyard, except Oafdragon; add it to your hand. You can only use this effect once per turn”. This effect is amazing to either stack the field or make some bigger plays later on in the duel, but this card doesn’t stop yet, its pendulum effect reads ” If you have a “magician” card in your other pendulum zone: You can add 1 face-up “magician” or “odd-eyes” pendulum monster from your extra deck to your hand, except Oafdragon”. I feel that this effect would be a lot better if it allowed you to bring the monster to the field, but I understand why its not. Oafdragon is outstanding for one card plays allowing you to recycle through your monsters so you can keep on making these humongous plays that can almost ensure you victory against your opponent.

Another card I want to talk about is a spell card known as Pendulum Call. Pendulum Call is a normal spell card that can instantly make plays just by discarding 1 card. Its effect is “Discard 1 card; add 2 “magician” pendulum monsters with different names from your deck to your hand, also, until the end of your opponents next turn after this card resolves, “magician” cards in your pendulum zones cannot be destroyed by card effects. You can only activate 1 pendulum call per turn. You cannot activate this card if you activated a “magician” monsters pendulum effect this turn”. Pendulum Call can bring you from the brink of defeat all the way to victory if you can get your self out of the situation your in and play the right cards to ensure you the win. One of the best parts is that you dont even have to play those magicians to your pendulum zone, you can just pendulum summon them to make more of a field for yourself.

The last card I’ll talk about is Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon. This Xyz monster has an atk of 2800 and a def of 2500, needing 2 level 7 monsters to make. Its a beast that is very versatile and can make plays even after it gets destroyed. Its effect is ” When any player’s monster declares an attack: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; negate the attack, then you can Special Summon 1 “Odd-Eyes” monster from your hand or Graveyard. If this Xyz Summoned card is sent to the Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1 “Odd-Eyes” monster from your Extra Deck, except “Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon”. You can only use each effect of “Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon” once per turn”. Odd-Eyes Absolute is amazing allowing you to negate an attack then special summon an Odd-Eyes monster and even if it were to get destroyed, it replaces itself with another Odd-Eyes monster, which is just an overpowered effect by itself.

Master of Pendulum is a very good deck to learn how the new pendulum mechanics work and how well they can combo together if played correctly. The tide of battle can change with just one card and with that one card you can take it all the way to victory. I highly recommend you guys get this deck, one to learn more about pendulums and two to get some amazing cards for your current deck that you wont be able to get anywhere else but here. Master of Pendulums goes for $9.99 and I believe its a product any duelist should have. Thanks for taking the time to read this review and remember happy dueling.
