Shadow Specters Review

This week my friends from Konami gave me the honor of reviewing a new Yugioh set that just came out, which is called Shadow Specters. Shadow Specters releases some new monster arc types and adds on to some popular ones as well. Mecha Phantom Beast make a small appearance, Archfiends make a comeback, Bujins are resurrected, Noble Knights make an honorable return and vampires are furiously out for blood. All these arc types make a comeback in this set and making a debut to the Yugioh world, ghostricks. All these arc types gain a big power boost in this set alone, which gives you the necessary evil to bring down your opponent.

This set has around 100 cards in it and almost every single one of them are great additions to the Yugioh TCG. Ghostricks are new to the TCG and are almost kinda like an anti meta to the current format. Ghostricks have a unique ability that allows them to be special summoned into face down defense position depending on what actions your opponent makes against you. One of my favorite Ghostricks I got to review was Ghostrick Lantern. Its effect says “Cannot be Normal Summoned, unless you control a “Ghostrick” monster. Once per turn: You can change this card to face-down Defense Position. When an opponent’s monster declares a direct attack, or when a “Ghostrick” monster you control is targeted for an attack: You can negate the attack, and if you do, Special Summon this card from your hand in face-down Defense Position”.

This card alone made me want to make a ghostrick deck for a mini battle fader effect that allows me to protect myself and my other ghostrick monsters. Although they generally have very low attack and no defense, doesn’t make them a push over. Ghostricks are very hard to control but are very effective against what your opponent has to throw at you.

Another arc type that got resurrected was the vampires. Now in the past we had a few vampires in Yugioh already like vampire lady, vampires curse, and also vampire lord. In this set they take them to a whole new level with adding in more support cards and even more powerful vampires. One of the vampires that i had received in the packs was vampires shadow, which i was very excited to get since it was a secret rare. Now his effect is “When this card is normal summoned: you can special summon 1 dark vampire monster from your hand or deck, except shadow vampire, but if you do, only that monster can attack for the rest of this turn. this card cannot be used as an Xyz material for an Xyz summon, except for the Xyz summon of a dark monster”. This card has a lot of potential for future decks as its very similar to tour guide, but with a little higher level.

Shadow Specters is a great addition to Yugioh and with the content in the set and the date that it was released, Konami made a really great effort for the players before the year was over. This set has a lot to offer and is a must to get cards from, either if you want to expand your library or perfect some decks, Shadow Specters is a good one to start off on.
