SingStar Queen Review (PS3)

The latest edition of SingStar brings the legendary rock band Queen to the stage, with 25 of their greatest hits to sing along with. Although there are no significant changes to the game’s general interface (save for a new voice recognition system with the mike on the menus), it’s still a blast singing along to such favorites as “Another One Bites the Dust”, “We Are the Champions” and (finally!) “Bohemian Rhapsody”. Some classic Queen videos are also included, providing pure 80’s bliss as lead singer Freddie Mercury and company strut their stuff.

The game has many faucets that people tend to miss when they play. The Singstar franchise is much deeper then just a Karaoke game that allows you to sing into a microphone in front of your TV. Singstar offers its users the ability to record songs they sing and upload them to a thriving, robust Singstar Online community. This community is what I feel puts Singstar miles above any competition out there.

Fans of Queen should absolutely rejoice in this great compilation. Every one of your favorite Queen songs are here for your enjoyment. You can sing along and watch some classic Queen’s videos in the process.

If you are not a fan of Queen, I would suggest Singstar Vol.1 or Vol. 2. Those two disc’s give you more of a variety in terms of songs. The good thing is that even if you are not a fan of Queen, you can always take to the Singstore and download other artist’s.

Singstar may not be for everybody. I happen to fall into the category of someone that love the game. I think Sony really has the Karaoke-based game market cornered, and that includes other singing-based games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Singstar has that charm that leaves the other “singing” games in the dust. A robust online community, the Singstore, and just an all-around fun game that the whole family can enjoy. Singstar: Queen is not only a great compilation but it’s a refreshing and wonderful tribute to one of the worlds greatest rock bands.
