Ted Movie creator to host the Oscars next year

In what is undoubtedly one the biggestnews of the week, Family Guy and Ted creator Seth MacFarlane has been chosen to host the 85th annual Academy Awards. Yes, that’s right, the guy who has made jokes about sex, Scientology, homosexuals, the English, Jesus and Anne Frank is going to host the most prestigious awards show on the movie calendar.

In an interview about these news MacFarlane said:

It’s truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars. My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don’t find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast.”

To be honest this is bold move by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to give MacFarlane the gig because he doesn’t have a great deal of experience hosting such an important event and it could also be slightly risky as the target of a lot of his jokes will be sat in the audience. Check out his hosting duties on the roasts of Charlie Sheen and David Hasselhoff to get a taste of how below the belt he can go.

I personally think that it’s a great decision by the academy though as it will give the Oscars a new change it has been missing in the past, and it will also be a great boost to the viewing figures as well because MacFarlane has a large and loyal fan base that he will bring with him. Perhaps the people who made the decision looked at the recent success of the Golden Globes, which for the past three years has been hosted by another controversial, but very funny comedian, Ricky Gervais, and while his jokes annoyed some celebs it did make for very entertaining Television. MacFarlane has some big shoes to fill because the Oscars have been hosted by some real Hollywood heavyweights over the years — including Whoopi Goldberg and Billy Crystal, but i think he was a great choice for this event and i think it will be a very good job well done by him.
