The International Digital Media & Arts Association Announces FastForward/2012 Summit and UnveilsFIrst Top Notch Speakers

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, The International Digital Media & Arts Association® (IDMAA) today opened early registration for its FastForward/2012â„¢ conference, and previewed some of its featured speakers for the upcoming event. The unique gathering of academic and entertainment industry professionals will be held in Miami, on the campus of the groundbreaking New World School of The Arts – a hybrid campus which is part of the University of Florida and Miami/Dade College, November 8-10, 2012.

“As an organization focused on collegial collaboration—celebrating the best practices within educational institutions and private enterprise, we believe that FastForward/2012 will be the most stimulating and productive gathering IDMAA has hosted as we look ahead to the future of media, culture and arts education,” said Joseph Olin, Executive Director. “I can think of no better way of marking our first ten years then by having our members look ahead at the trends in media education.”

In looking toward the trends and issues of the next ten years as a starting point, we are very pleased to announce a few of our keynote presenters:

Dr. David Gallo – Renowned undersea explorer and Director of Special Projects for the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, Gallo was co-director of the Titanic expeditions and most recently led the search to find the flight recorder from the infamous Air France jetliner in the South Atlantic Ocean. A TED Fellow whose presentations constantly rank on the top of the most viewed TED Talks, Dr. Gallo will be speaking on the role exploration plays in our quest for knowledge and improvement.

Meredith Amdur – General Manager of Online Services for Microsoft will continue our theme of exploration of knowledge. Ms. Amdur is responsible for Microsoft’s online search efforts including Bing! In our modern world, the ability to do research online has become more arduous with the proliferation of resources connected via the Web. Amdur will address how online search can be more effective within academic exploration.

Richard Hilleman – Chief Creative Officer of Electronic Arts performs many roles for one of the most recognized pillars of interactive entertainment. Hilleman’s history of game development is legendary, but perhaps his most important contributions have come through his development of talent within EA’s studios. Hilleman will speak to how changes in the game entertainment landscape require a different approach in creating the next generation of game makers.

More of this year’s speakers will be announced over the next few weeks.

In addition to keynote presentation and panels, FastForward/2012 will play host to the IDEAS art exhibition, comprised of pieces curated by IDMAA from leading artists – many from the academic community. As an organization celebrating the role that academics has on digital culture – IDMAA’s annual Student Showcase is one of the best ways to experience new trends by seeing novel approaches from the minds of current students.

Artists, Students and Educators are recognized at the IDMAA Awards banquet. The “IDDY” awards are determined by the board and membership of the organization and presented to educators, professionals and students who have demonstrated excellence in shaping arts and digital culture.

Online registration for the FastForward/2012 summit will open September 14, 2012. Please visit for more information and to register to attend an event that draws upon the best minds in digital media and arts education.

About International Digital Media & Arts Association (IDMAA)
Started in 2002, the International Digital Media & Arts Association (IDMAA) serves the diverse field of digital media by providing a forum for professionals and academic communities to develop new ideas and practices.

IDMAA embraces the traditional academic disciplines such as the Arts, Computer Science, Engineering, Journalism and Communications, Media Studies, Film and Television as well as the commercial and professional segments that they fuel. The new technologies that are spawning sweeping changes inspire new modes of collaboration between the professional and academic worlds. In response, colleges and universities incorporate these new technologies and practices into their curricula.

IDMAA is the forum where progressive thinkers and creators from all disciplines can come together as a community – academia, industry and trade associations – to share concerns, insights and experiences related to their common interests.
