TRITTON Pro+ 5.1 True Surround Headset Review.

My friends at Madcatz have sent me another pair of headsets to cover, this time I got my hands on the TRITTON Pro+ 5.1 True Surround Headset. After reviewing the Warhead 7.1  I knew this headset had an up hill battle but in the end I was pleasantly surprised, So let’s get on to the review.

Comfort and Design

Not as comfortable as the Warhead 7.1 , they feel a bit too firm for my liking though not a bad thing, i know some of you would prefer it. They do feel great when wearing them but i just like that softness of the earcups that you get from the Warheads.

They do feel very solid and sturdy, you don’t get that cheap plastic feel you see in other headsets.

The Pro+ 5.1 come in the standard Tritton design which is great cause I’ve always liked the look of their headsets. Out of the box the Pro+ 5.1 comes with

  • True 5.1 Surround Sound Headset
  • Decoder Box with Dolby Digital Technology
  • In-line Audio Controller
  • Removable, Flexible Microphone
  • 2x Xbox LIVE Connector Cables
  • USB Cable
  • Optical Cable
  • Digital Audio Adapter
  • AC Adapter

The two things that really stood out for me is the decoder box and the in-line audio controller(both pictured below), The Decoder Box is where all the “magic happens”  it is the brains of the operation and where everything plugs in (naturally). But with so much going on with the box MadCatz as been able to keep everything very simple; one cable for power, one optical cable and the headset cable that goes in the front, that’s it. Other than the power button everything else in terms of controls and adjustments are done at the In-line controller and that is where the TRITTON Pro+ 5.1 True Surround Headset stands out from the others, it is truly amazing what you can do from that control from the obvious volume and chat adjustments to the more complex adjustments like which in ear speakers to turn off or on. It even lights up and displays a certain color depending on your volume (Green being the lowest and red being max). Another feature is the SVM which allows you to choose whether or not you want to hear your voice through the headset also another bonus it comes with a ridiculously long 12ft cord.

Sound

This is where the TRITTON Pro+ 5.1 really surprised me, I’ve been using the Warhead 7.1 and Astro A40s for a while now so I’ve been really spoiled when it comes to great sounding headsets. Though they’re not 7.1 surround sound the TRITTON Pro+ 5.1 comes damn close to being on par with those headsets, it sounds so incredibly crisp clear, you can hear every little detail from bullets to footsteps as they come from behind you and pass you by and the TRITTON Pro+ 5.1.

Some of the titles I played were Modern Warfare 3, Borderlands 2, Madden 13, the Walking Dead and Minecraft.

Set-up

As I mentioned above set up is crazy easy just 3 cables and your set for the Xbox 360 set up, you’ll have to plug in a USB cable for PS3 use. either way it shouldn’t take more than 2-3 minutes to set up.

Conclusion

The TRITTON Pro+ 5.1 have to easily be the best $200 headsets on the market and with the ability to use them for both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 you really get the most out of them, I’ve already started recommending them to a few people who are looking for new headsets for both consoles.

Amazing sound quality, awesome features and built to last I highly recommend the TRITTON Pro+ 5.1 True Surround Headset for anyone looking for a really good $200 headset.

I give the TRITTON Pro+ 5.1 a 9 out of 10 an amazing multi-console headset for $200.
