World Superstars Review

What’s up everybody Super Patches here with another Yugioh review. My friend from Konami gave me the opportunity to share with you guys my thoughts on their latest set, World Superstars. Now the thing about this set is that it is new for the TCG, but not for the OCG. All the cards in this set were actually released already in Japan and now they are seeing the light of day in the U.S. Plus there are a couple of cards that were actually prize cards for World Championship. Now this set was not a big one it had 34 super rares and 18 prismatic secret rares, making it a 52 card set. Each pack contained 4 supers and 1 secret and there are 24 packs per booster box. Even though this set is small, there still were a ton of cards I had wanted from it to help some decks that really needed the support.
The first card on my list to talk about is Gagaga Sister. Now for me I have had a gagaga deck in the making for awhile now, but it was always lacking in speed. Gagaga Sister is the answer to this decks prayers. It says “When this card is Normal Summoned: You can add 1 “Gagaga” Spell/Trap Card from your Deck to your hand. You can target 1 other “Gagaga” monster you control; the Levels of that monster and this card become their combined current Levels, until the end of this turn. You can only use this effect of “Gagaga Sister” once per turn” . This card was amazing once I saw it, it could search out all my gagaga spells and traps and I can potentially make a rank 10 Xyz with just her and magician, that’s why I got my hands on 3 of those as soon as I can. I mean who doesn’t like cards that search for anything helpful and is able to become part of Gustav Max. The main thing I like about this card is that it has so many potential plays and many ways to get rid of problematic cards. With magician this two card combo is just insane.

Another card I want to talk about, and also it has been getting a lot of buzz is Elemental HERO Blazeman. Yup elemental heros are back and it doesn’t look like they are going anywhere. His effect reads “If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can add 1 “Polymerization” from your Deck to your hand. During your Main Phase: You can activate this effect; you cannot Special Summon monsters for the rest of this turn, except Fusion Monsters, also send 1 “Elemental HERO” monster from your Deck to the Graveyard, except “Elemental HERO Blazeman”, and if you do, this card’s Attribute, ATK, and DEF each become the same as the monster sent to the Graveyard, until the end of this turn. You can only use 1 “Elemental HERO Blazeman” effect per turn, and only once that turn”. Blazeman is a fantastic pick for both E-Heros and Masked Heros, with his first effect to get polymerization to your hand to help greatly with your Elemental monsters, and with the second effect, you are able to mask change him into Dark Law, Anki, Acid or Vapor to deal with your opponents shenanigans right there and then. I have been also seeing him sprinkled into a lot of rogue decks, don’t be surprised to see him at locals or YCS.
Now this card is the highest priced and the most popular card in the set and that is Star Seraph Sovereignty. Lets look at its effect first to see why people are trying to get this card, it says “Cannot be used as an Xyz Material for an Xyz Summon, except for an Xyz Summon that uses 3 or more monsters as Xyz Materials. If you Normal or Special Summon a “Star Seraph” monster(s), except during the Damage Step: You can Special Summon this card from your hand, and if you do, draw 1 card, then you can Special Summon it if it is a “Star Seraph” monster”. Now to me I see this card only staying in a Star Seraph deck, that’s where it makes sense. But I got to give it to the duelist out there being able to use him in a ton of decks and taking advantage of that amazing draw effect. Having sovereignty bounce back and keep drawing and SS, it seems to be a broken card if used the right way.
Now the last 2 cards I want to talk about are the prize cards for worlds. They are Legendary Dragon of White, and Legendary Magician of Dark. Now both these cards have the same effect being that if this card reduces your opponents life points down to 0 you win the match. Now let me remind you a match is a best of 3 duel, so winning a match means you beat your opponent twice automatically. Pretty good effects, but the one bad part about it is that both cards cannot be used in a duel, according to the bottom left corner of the card. So these cards are mainly for fun with friends, unlimited duels or just for pure collecting. I like the art of these cards alot , although they resemble a lot like some older cards that were released a long time ago, I wonder what they could be?
I really enjoyed reviewing this set, although much of the cards are not versatile and are very much deck exclusive cards. I still feel that this set gives those smaller decks the support it needed to become better and the chance to become more competitive. I would rate this set with a 7/10, like I said its not a bad set and has a lot of good cards, but it might have a lot that your not really looking for either. I suggest you guys check it out foe yourselves and let me know what you guys think.
