Hello fellow gamers on FBG and welcome to the first of hopefully many TCG reviews. This week my friends from Konami sent over some packs to check out and give you guys a review of what I think about them. This week they sent me over some packs of the recently released Number Hunters. This a 60 card set containing 20 secret rates and 40 super rates. These packs are very similar to the Hidden Arsenal sets in the way of 5 cards per pack, 4 super and 1 secret rare , and most cards in the set can be used in todays decks. This set follows the number cards which is based on the tv show Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal, where the main character Yuma Tsukumo is trying to find these number cards for his alien friend Astral, as each number card holds part of his memory, the crew need to find them all and get them back to Astral before they wind up in the wrong hands.
This set contains quite a few number cards and a couple new Xyz monsters, effect monsters, and a fairly new form of Xyz called CXyz. There are a couple of really old cards from the past returning back to Yugioh as super rares as well. I can see this set having lots of uses with all the new Xyz monster in it that it wouldn’t be a surprise to see these cards make it regionals, or even worlds.
I’ll tell you about some of the good cards in the set and what I hope to pull from the packs. First up probably one of the best cards in the set which is Number 74: Master of Blades.
Number 74: Master of Blades is a rank 7 Xyz monster requiring only two level 7 monsters to make. With an attack of 2700 and a defense of 2300 your probably hoping that it has an amazing effect, and it does. During either players turn when a card or effect is activated that targets this face up card, you detach 1 material from it, negate that cards effect and destroy it. Then after you destroy the card that was negated you can destroy 1 more card on the field and since it is not limited to how many times per turn it can be activated, you can use all the material monsters all the same turn if you choose to. Another card that might be floating around in the circuit would be Number 85 : Crazy Box
Number 85 : CrazyBox is a solid Xyz monster, with an attack of 3000 and a measly 300 defense you obviously got a big beat stick on your side. With an easy way to get Crazy Box out, by just using two level 4 monsters you think your set, Wrong. This is where its effect kicks in. It says YOU CANT ATTACK with this card, so the fun begins, once per turn you can detach a material monster attached to it and roll a six sided dice. Very similar to dangerous machine type 6 it almost has the same effects. Roll 1: halve your life points, Roll 2: draw one card, Roll 3 : you opponent discards one card, Roll 4 : negate the effect of one face up card on the field until the end of this turn, Roll 5 : destroy one card on the field, and Roll 6 : destroy this card. You can obviously see which effects are beneficial pretty much 2-5 are good, 6 is bad, and 1 is just devastating. A good card to combo this with would be skill drain, which negates all monsters on the fields effects so now you have a 3000 beater without all the Crazy effects happening. Another great card in this set would be Number 54 : Lion Heart.
Number 54 : Lion Heart is a rank 1 Xyz monster with only 100 attack and defense, wow. It also takes 3 level 1 monsters to make this card. Ok now the good part the effect, this face up attack position card cannot be destroyed by battle. When this card is involved in a battle your opponent takes equal amount of battle damage you took from that battle. If this card battles an opponents monster during damage calculation (during either players turn), you can remove one material card attached from this card, your opponent takes any battle damage you would have taken from that battle. The trick with this card is to juice up your opponents monster and attack them to have them take all the damage and hopefully take the win. The last card I’ll talk about is gonna be a popular one and that is Box of Friends.
Box of Friends effect is If this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: You can Special Summon from your Deck, 2 Normal Monsters with different names whose ATK or DEF is 0, in face-up Defense Position. You can only use this effect of “Box of Friends” once per turn. Monsters Special Summoned by this effect cannot be used as a Synchro Material Monster, also they are destroyed during your next End Phase. Now this card could be used for super fast Xyz summons and possibly other decks that need fast monster support. With 0 attack and defense this card is not much but paired with good decks, you can get set up real fast while your opponent is still trying to think of what they are going to do.
This set is really good and has a lot of competitive cards in it, and like I said don’t be surprised if you start seeing these cards in main stream decks. These packs are out now and each cost $3.99. I would like to know if you guys would like to see pictures of the packs or a clip of it where I open the packs and show the cards when I open them. Let me know in the comments. Thanks everyone and happy hunting.
